No pulse or heartbeat – soldier revived. IDF soldier Matanel Ben‑Shabbat arrived at Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva without a pulse or heartbeat after being critically wounded during fighting in the Gaza Strip. But an emergency thoracotomy, massive transfusion, and amputations, helped him survive to inspire others.

Eiruv saves Israeli soldiers from drone. A soldier in the IDF Military Rabbinate, erected an eiruv of poles and strings near the Lebanese border to allow soldiers to carry items on Shabbat. An explosive FPV drone launched by Hezbollah got entangled in the strings and self-detonated, miraculously injuring no-one.

Implant replaces half the pelvis of cancer patient. In a 19-hour operation, surgeons from Israel’s Schneider and Beilinson hospitals successfully replaced half of a 15-year-old Russian cancer patient's pelvis using a 3D-printed titanium and advanced polymer implant. The implant will now start to grow real bone around it.

No-drug cancer therapy. Scientists from Israel’s Technion Institute have engineered MPsomes – nanoparticles that block macrophages that provide tumors with food. It gives hope to patients with aggressive triple-negative breast cancer, which accounts for 40% of deaths and cannot be treated with conventional hormone therapy.

Exploding immune cells discovered. Researchers from Ben-Gurion University and Stanford University have discovered a completely unknown type of immune cell in flatworms that protects the body by literally erupting. The newly identified cells, named ruptoblasts, sense a hormone spike and erupt, destroying invading microbes.

How the body can repair itself. Researchers at Israel’s Technion have uncovered a natural mechanism through which the body repairs itself. Contrary to what was previously believed, mature, aged cells retain the ability to “turn back time” and revert into active stem cells that regenerate damaged tissue.
Gastritis model leads to new allergy treatments. Tel Aviv University researchers have developed one of the first experimental models for eosinophilic gastritis - an allergic disease of the stomach. The model helped identify the immune pathways responsible the disease and has led to a new generation of biologic therapies.

Bacteria copy genes to resist antibiotics. Scientists at Israel’s Technion scientists have found that bacteria can rapidly create dozens of copies of specific genes that help them survive antibiotics. The discovery it could pave the way for medication designed to disrupt the mechanism and improve the effectiveness of antibiotics.

Blood tests using eye scanning. This work began some years ago (see here previously). Researchers from Tel Aviv University and Sheba Medical Center have developed an artificial intelligence-based system that can detect anemia and estimate key blood markers using a brief video scan of blood vessels in the eye.

Step up for a longer life. Researchers from Ben-Gurion University have found that the speed that an older adult can execute a voluntary step (especially when distracted by a concurrently performed cognitive task) may serve as a valuable clinical predictor of longevity. Improve health through nutrition. 4th ERC grant for cardiology research. NIS 170 million in tech education scholarships. The Dell Foundation and Council for Higher Education are investing NIS 170 million in a new high-tech scholarship program. Abandoned Arab baby is now a 37-year-old Jewish mother. Bashar, an Israeli Muslim Arab from Nazareth, found an abandoned Arab baby in an alleyway and arranged for her adoption, unaware she would be raised by a Jewish family as an Orthodox Jew. 37 years later, the two reunited in a beautiful full-circle moment.

IDF saves 29 people in Colombia. The 80-person Israeli rescue delegation has returned home after a 12-day mission in Colombia, where it located and rescued 29 missing people. Home Front Command chief Maj. Gen. Shai Klapper said, “Today we can say - there are no missing people left in the city of Cali.”
Rescue missions to Nepal. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Israel will assist after devastating floods swept away communities along the Nepal-Tibet border. Somaliland opens embassy in Jerusalem. More efficient hydrogen cells. Scientists at Israel’s Technion and China’s Tianjin University have improved the efficiency of anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs), which generate electricity through a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Rather than eliminate carbon dioxide (CO2) they manage it, to stabilize the cell.

Green Product Award. The international rating firm Start-up Genome has ranked Tel Aviv fourth among global cities in the worldwide start-up ecosystem list, with a valuation of $250 billion. Ashdod Port is breaking records. Ashdod Port Company broke records in 2025 with revenues of NIS 1,232 million, up 17% on 2024 and a huge increase in profits. Employees enjoyed large bonuses. Intact Roman statues unearthed. (TY TPS) Two intact Roman-era marble busts dating back roughly 1,700 years have been uncovered inside a Roman-Byzantine winepress pit near the Israeli coastal town of Binyamina. They were found during an archaeological excavation before starting construction work for a railway project.
Three million flowers. Some 50 of Israel's leading floral designers worked day and night for weeks, to create massive displays for the "Journey Between Worlds - FLOWERS" exhibition at Expo Tel Aviv. Three well-preserved large storage jars dating back to the Middle Bronze Age were discovered during excavations in ancient Shiloh, site of the Biblical Tabernacle. National Religious doubles up. Israel’s national‑religious community make up only about 15% of the population, but they account for over 30% of IDF reservists. This has been visible for more than a decade, but especially after Oct 7, 2023, when national‑religious units reported near‑total turnout.
IDF tank unit saves Israeli Arabs from burning building. A Merkava Mark IV tank crew from the 401st Armored Brigade carried out an unexpected civilian rescue in Feb 2024, when they saved a group of Israeli Arab residents trapped inside a burning apartment building near the Gaza border town of Netiv HaAsara.
